Shadow work prompts for intuition: The Knowing

Shadow work prompts for intuition ask what you already know and are spending real energy trying not to know. Most people do not lack insight. They have a truth about their job, their relationship, or their health sitting in plain view, and a well-built habit of looking past it. These prompts turn you toward it.

What is The Knowing for?

In Soul Arc, The Knowing is one of 12 prompt themes. The app describes it as "Intuition, truth & self-deception". It is carried by the The Oracle archetype, which means that if the quiz places you there, the first of your daily prompts comes from this theme.

Self-deception is a shadow problem because it is active. Not knowing takes no effort. Not-knowing something you have already sensed takes a lot: the reasons, the softening, the extra proof you keep gathering so you do not have to act. The Knowing theme asks about that effort and what it is buying you.

The prompts split into two kinds. Some ask about the body and the gut: what your body told you that logic overruled, what you called overthinking that may have been intuition. Others ask about truth you are softening so you do not have to act on it. Both are about the same thing. The gut noticed first, and the mind got to work explaining it away.

This theme is less about pain than most and more about consequences. The honest answer to several of these prompts implies a decision. You do not have to make the decision in the same session. You do have to write the answer.

Eight shadow work prompts for intuition and self-deception

These 8 prompts are quoted word for word from the Soul Arc app. They are in the order the app keeps them.

These are 8 of the 12 prompts in The Knowing. The app has all 12, and 144 prompts across 12 themes. On the free plan you get 3 new prompts a day. Soul Arc Pro opens all of them, with a picker by archetype or theme. See the FAQ for what Pro costs.

How should you use these prompts?

New to this? Start with what shadow work is, and end every session on purpose with the closing routine. The full set of 144 shadow work prompts covers the other 11 themes.

What does a good answer look like?

Prompt: What do you already know that you're spending real energy trying not to know?

Entry: "That I don't want to be a lawyer. I knew in second year. I've built an entire argument about sunk costs and my parents and the loans, and the argument is good, and I still get to the office on Monday and feel the floor drop. I know. I've known for six years."

Umbra might ask: "What does knowing it for six years cost you each Monday?"

Umbra, the companion inside Soul Arc, answers with one question that points back to your own words. It never gives advice, and it never tells you what your entry means.

Which archetype carries The Knowing?

In the app, each of the 12 archetypes carries one theme. The Knowing belongs to The Oracle. The app sums that archetype up in one line:

You sense things others cannot explain

Its light and shadow traits, and three of these prompts, are on the archetype's own page. An archetype counts as mastered after 5 of its prompts.

What if a prompt brings up too much?

The truths that surface here can be about serious things: a relationship, your health, your safety. Write them, then get help with the next step from a real person, whether a trusted friend, a doctor, or a licensed therapist. A journal is a good place to admit something and a poor place to carry it alone.

These prompts are for self-reflection, not therapy. If you are thinking about harming yourself, reach a person now. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).

Questions people ask

What does intuition have to do with shadow work?

What you refuse to know about your own life is part of the shadow. These prompts look at the gap between what you sense and what you let yourself admit, which is often where the most important material is.

How do I tell intuition from anxiety?

Not always easily. A useful test: anxiety circles and gets louder, intuition says one thing and waits. Several prompts here ask what you have called overthinking, which is a good place to look.

What if the truth I find means a big change?

Write it anyway, and make no decision in the session. A truth you can see is easier to live with than one you are working to avoid, even before you act on it.

Which archetype in Soul Arc carries The Knowing?

The Oracle. If the quiz places you there, the first of your 3 daily prompts on the free plan comes from this theme. Its light and shadow traits are on its own page.
